When
Call for information about upcoming classes. Contact numbers are listed below.
Weedfeed runs each season for 6 weeks, plus the banquet. Scooter Cheatham, lead author of The Useful Wild Plants of Texas, the Southeastern and Southwestern United States, the Southern Plains and Northern Mexico, teaches this class (and has since 1974).

What Time
Friday evenings at 7:00 and Saturday mornings (8:00 to noonish to early afternoon, depending on where we go) for weeks 1, 2, 4, and 5. Weeks 3 and 6 are campouts.

Where
Friday evenings at the UWP office at 4700 Loyola, Suite 104 (the corner of Manor and Loyola, not far from Hwy. 183). The Friday meeting topics cover the plants for the week in detail, with slides, identification, and uses. Bring a notebook and pencil to take notes. No computers or tape recorders please.

Field Trips
Saturday field trips to various locations around Austin (vacant lots, yards, gardens, alleys - you'd be surprised at what gets mowed down and weeded out); to parks (such as Bastrop, Palmetto, McKinney Springs, Pedernales Springs, Krause Springs, Bull Creek Park); along country roads, or wherever looks interesting. We carpool on the field trips. Some people stay after the plants have been seen, if we're near a swimming hole or a good place to eat. Each week's field trip location is determined by what looks most promising when we scout around the week before. There are a couple of overnight field trips, one a weekend trip to Big Bend and other parts of West Texas, and the other a Saturday night campout to a place where we can build a campfire and cook out. (No video cameras please).

Who
Weedfeed is made up of an eclectic assortment of people with a wide variety of interests and a common desire to learn about what is around them (no, you don't need to know anything about botany to take this class). Because of the nature of the class we cannot accommodate guests or children at the lectures or on the field trips.

The Banquet
Each person brings a dish (plus one for each person you invite) made from wild plants (tame ingredients allowed too). We have plenty of suggestions and recipes to use: teas, wines, soda pops, appetizers, soups, breads, crackers, jams and jellies, vegetable dishes, main dishes, pies, cakes, ice cream.

How Much?
Call Lynn Marshall for current cost of the seven weeks of slide lectures, field trips, campouts, and banquet. Space is limited. You can reserve a spot with a deposit (the balance is due at or before the first Friday night meeting), or by sending in the entire amount ahead of time. Checks are payable to Lynn Marshall and mailed to 2612 Sweeney Lane, Austin, Texas 78723.

Speedy Weedfeed
This is a one-day Weedfeed, offered occasionally throughout the year. Enrollment is limited. Call for details.
